AGA reports that Maryland gambling made strides
There has been some progress made toward getting mobile sports betting up and running in Maryland, but the state’s regulators still have a lot of work to do. Assistant Attorney General David Stamper said that a fresh disparity analysis is currently being conducted in a recent report that was sent to the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission (SWARC). Stamper did not specify a schedule for the research, which will assess whether the SWARC needs to make an additional effort to incorporate minority- and women-owned firms in the MD sports betting market.
The SWARC has been entrusted with drafting the standards for the competitive licenses in Maryland, which may include up to 30 retail licenses and 60 mobile licenses respectively. In the state of Maryland, there are now five retail sportsbooks that are open.
Bingo World’s application for a retail license was authorized by the SWARC. This is one of 17 venues included under Maryland’s sports betting law. In addition to Bingo World, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency are now in the process of finalizing permits for three other retail sportsbooks.
Another three licenses have been sent in, and the MLGCA is now reviewing them.
